it has been such a long time! but i'm back, with more new songs as always. i've started working on a new record, which is called "an attempt to be lonely" (at the present time). here are three demos from it!

hello, my old friend! i suppose i've hit a quick spell of writer's block, and it's been some time since i've written/recorded something new. this weekend i played a lot of songs, and i happened to play one in front of a fire, with some friends around. i pulled out the laptop and figured i'd capture the moment. this song is going to be on the new record, which has changed names from "leaving" to "first morning light", even though all the songs are still about the former. anyways, hope you enjoy the song.

a new day, a new record. i've finished all the demos for "moving backwards...", which means it's time to start on record number two. i recorded two songs this afternoon, both of which will be on it. i'm going to call the record "leaving" and it's going to have lots of songs about that very thing. "roberta" is about a friend from a far away land, and "the unassuming girl..." is about realizing your complacency. if you feel like leaving, maybe you should.

happy thanksgiving, folks. i hope you're having a lovely weekend, filled with family, sweaters, friends, crisp air, and a little pumpkin pie.

my weekend has been fairly uneventful thus far: i wrote a huge paper, and i should have done more work today, but i ended up drinking too much coffee, and being way too antsy to focus. instead, i listened to a lot of radiohead, while thinking about how i will take in the new record on wednesday. i went with, in my headphones, walking to the creek. i'm excited.

here's something. my friend alex drew this picture freehand in paint. i think it's neat:

i also downtuned the classical, and wrote two songs on it. here's one that i quickly recorded tonight. it's called "first morning light" and it's about leaving behind the frustrations of the city, and getting lost in beauty of trees. hope you like it!

i spent a weekend in the city, but not in the traditional, vacation from the country, sense. let's go for coffee, i'll tell you all about it. things are getting pretty chilly here, as you can see from the picture. i haven't seen a blue sky in too long, and that's too bad. i'm hoping it clears up at least once more, so i can hang out underneath some changing leaves.

i've written a few new songs, and i'm kind of in the process of recording them. here's one that i finished, that will have drums pretty soon. i wrote this song this summer, at work, and i still have the original lyrics i wrote down on a golf scorecard. lyrically, it's a bit of a confession; you could call it my ode to the girl who will never love me. the truth is, that it's really about sex. think about it, it will all make sense. i played it for my mum as she passed by my room, and she said, "it sounds like simon and garfunkel". hope you enjoy harmony.

i'm done with the majority of papers due this week, so i'll have some more time to record songs. i've got about three that need to be recorded, and two that i'm writing, and will be done soon. i'm also working on a great song with some friends. i'll let you know more about that as it happens. here's a cover of an amazing final fantasy song that i made after watching the latest take away show. hope you like it.

a side note: pinkerton is the best record i've re-discovered in a long time.

such a long day. i had an all day class, which meant two four hour sessions of half listening, and the creation of my first novel. let's just say that i'm happy to be done, and happy to not have to sit and listen to a topic that i couldn't care less about. and in celebration of this new found happiness, here's a new song!

another t-shirt day. thanks to aidan's tip, i've got a new midi rhodes patch, which means that my demos can now have a decent sounding rhodes in it! today's song is a cover of the last song on one of my favourite albums in the last little while, "loney, noir". if loney, dear is new to you, head over to his myspace and let him brighten up your day. (of course if you live on the west coast, all you have to do is open your window to have your day brightened.) my version features an ending full of noise makers that were on my desk, and an interrupted take, care of rob shauf. hope you enjoy!

it's been so nice here lately. i wrote another song tonight, about trips, and leaving people behind. we all seem to do that sometimes. i've decided to take more pictures too. my camera sits so lonely on my desk, and i hate to let something so lovely go to waste. so expect lots of pictures, along with lots of songs.
